Early Times Report JAMMU, July 7: While senior police officers are now-a-days engaged in a vigorous struggle for their appointment as SSP, Jammu, Uttam Chand, who was transferred following anti-police protests by the members of Sikh community at Satwari over a month back, was likely to be reappointed as the head of Jammu district police. Chand, who had proceeded on protest leave and gone home in Punjab after his transfer, has still not joined his service. He is likely to return here on July 10. If police sources are to be believed, he would again be appointed as SSP, Jammu, when he comes back on July 10. Police headquarters (PHQ) was also said to have apprised the Home Department of its decision in this regard. This was the reason behind not filling up the vacant post of SSP, Jammu, the sources added. Sources said PHQ had deliberately chosen July 10 to reappoint him as SSP, Jammu, because by then the DGPC elections, which are slated for tomorrow, would be over. Sources said while two to three ministers had expressed their displeasure over the reappointment of Uttam Chand as SSP, Jammu, a senior police officer made them clear that if officers were transferred like this for maintaining law and order situations in the state, they would hesitate from putting their best to control such situations in future. Following detailed discussions over the issue, these ministers had now also given their consent over the Uttam's appointment as SSP, Jammu, sources informed. |
