Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: With an objective to build capacity amongst Scientists, Engineers, Technocrats, Scholars from Academic institutes, NGO's and other Stakeholders in water resources sector, a training course of one day on "Artificial Recharge & Rain Water Harvesting" was conducted at Udhampur, by Central Ground Water Board, North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu, under Jal Kranti Abhiyan. Around 160 officers from Ramban, Doda, Rajouri, Ramnagar, Billawar, Kathua, Reasi & Udhampur, attended the training session. Ashok Gupta, Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic Circle, Udhampur was the chief guest of the Inaugural function while Dr Uma Kapoor, Regional Director, CGWB, Jammu presided over the function. The chief guest Ashok Gupta, SE, Hydraulic Division, Udhampur emphasized on the importance of training program for stakeholders and policy makers. He suggested the trainees to implement the knowledge that they are going to acquire in this very beneficial one day training program, in their field areas in future. Earlier in her inaugural address, Dr Uma Kapoor, Regional Director, talked about the major work areas of Jal Kranti Abhiyan. She also highlighted schemes like Jal Gram Yojna, Jal Mitra, women encouragement in water management schemes. According to officials under the Jal Kranti Abhiyan promotion of Micro?irrigation (Drip and sprinkler Irrigation) and Pipe Irrigation wherever found useful and artificial recharge of ground water is envisaged. The points on other thrust areas of Abhiyan like Pollution abatement, trainings on Water Conservation & Artificial Recharge, GW Pollution, Ganga Flood plain Rejuvenation - Nirmal Dhara, Aviral Dhara & Swach Kinara were also deliberated. At the onset of programme, Vinod Sharma, Scientist D & Course Co-ordinator, CGWB, Jammu welcomed the trainees and talked about the need of this one day training course which is being imparted to the participants from various State government departments viz. PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, Research Scholars from University, Engineers from Army, Soil & Water Conservation, NGO's etc. |
