Youth who thanked army faces public wrath

anantnag, Sept 22: A group of miscreants on Thursday tried to set on fire the residential house of a youth who yesterday thanked Indian army for holding recruitment rally in this Southern district.
Reports said a group of miscreants stormed into the residence house of Yasir Ahmad (name changed) at Soafshali, Kokernag, and tried to set it on fire for speaking in favour of Indian army.
However, the timely intervention of local Auqaf Committee saved the youth and his residential house.
"The Auqaf Committee intervened and stopped youth from putting the house of Youth on fire. He was also forced to seek apology for thanking Indian army," a local told Early Times.
When contacted, Station House Officer (SHO) Kokernag down played the incident. "Nothing such happened," SHO said and dropped the call.
Pertinent to mention here that the youth whose residential house was attacked, had on yesterday thanked Indian army for conducting recruitment rally.
"I am thankful to the Army for providing me this opportunity. I appeal to the youth to shun violence and give peace a chance. We should come forward and serve our country. Violence will fetch us nothing," he was quoted as having told the media.
He also appealed youth to refrain from stone pelting and prove your talent.
According to Army, 11,000 youth from the Kashmir valley have registered online for the recruitment.
Brigadier JS Samyal, Deputy Director General, Recruitment said that out of 11,500 online registrations, more than 6000 are from the southern region of the Valley.
"We have kept the recruitment rally open and youth aspiring to be part of the Army can walk in," Samyal said.
Pertinently, the south Kashmir region has been the epicenter of theongoing unrest, which started after the killing of HM commander Burhan Wani on July 8. Over 80 civilians have died so far in the ongoing unrest besides hundreds have suffered injuries due to pellets.
