Yes, Jammu has highest number of un-electrified villages in JK | Andhernagri, chopatraaj | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 22: At a time when the government is beating the trumpet of modernising the state with latest technology, startling revelations about how state is reeling under the backwardness arecoming to fore. As per the government records, there are no less than 108 villages in Jammu and Kashmir that have not seen electricity till date. The records are falsifying that claims of many about Jammu getting a lion's share in development than Kashmir. As per the records, if there are 62 villages of Jammu un-electrified, in Kashmir valley the number of such villages is mere 27 while as in Ladakh province, such villages are 19 in number. The documents in possession of the Early Times reveal that in Jammu region of the state, there are villages and hamlets in hundreds reeling under the darkness in 21st century and the inhabitants of these areas haven't seen electricity till date. The official documents reveal further that according to the survey conducted by the state dispensation, there were as many as 62 villages in Jammu region that are as on date un-electrified. According to government sources the number of hamlets in the countryside of Jammu could be more with no electricity facilities. "That was the survey conducted at the government level. It wasn't carried out rigorously and hence there are apprehensions of such villages being more in number than being pointed out in the survey," says an officialassociated with the survey department. In the same survey that has taken off the lid over the pseudo claims of Jammu development has stated that it is this region that has been giving major share of electricity fee. In terms of revenue collection, major revenue is being generated from Jammu, reads the report compiled by state's power department. "There is a major misconception on ground that Jammu is getting much attention in terms of development while Valley is reeling far behind. The fact is that Kashmir has electricity even in far flung areas while Jammu has been neglected in that sphere," says the official of the PDD, adding that it was fearsome to find how even in 21st century, electricity is yet to reach to more than 108 villages of the state. If reports are to be believed, the electrification of the major hamlets of Jammu province was kept in limbo by the successive regimes of the state despite knowing the fact that these far flung areas are in the dire need of electricity facility as are the people hailing from cities and towns. "If there are 62 major villages in Jammu without electricity till date, it has indeed pricked the balloon of equitable development in the state. It has unmasked how much serious the governments were to provide a sigh of relief for the people living in the countryside of the state," says an official in power ministry, adding that GoI must intervene to ensure justice to those from whom the right to live with comfort has been snatched away by the power corridors since long time. |
