Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 22: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Peoples Democratic Party coalition government has shown total insensitivity towards the gullible daily wagers of Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), who have once again protest started protest demanding release of their salary of three years.
Moreover, the promise made by PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister to the protesting daily wagers, nearly three months back, has proved a farce so far as nothing has changed in the fate of these thousands of daily wagers.
"Nearly 16000 daily wagers, consolidated paid workers, casual workers and two thousands workers engaged by department for land use, have been protesting for release of their three years' pending salary but there is no word from government side", Sham Lal, a daily wagers, who was part of protest outside Chief Engineer Office BC Road Jammu, on the seventh day of their protest demonstration said.
"Already we are being paid very meager wages, Rs. 150 a day. Everyone know that inflation has been increasing with each passing day, increasing worries of common man. One can easily imagine the fate of daily wagers, whose three years' salary is pending with department and family of five or six members depend on the daily wager", he castigated.
Another daily wager said that three months back when they had observed strike, PHE Minister had assured that steps would be taken for permanent solution of problems of daily wagers.
"He had assured to collect document from daily wagers and had assured to start biometric attendance system for timely payment of wages but after lapse of three months, government has not done anything in this regard", he said, adding that even the biometric attendance system had not been started. The daily wagers said that they have been working in the department for the last more than ten to fifteen years and at this stage of life they could not learn any other skill to earn livelihood and were not in a condition to left the job but government has made the life of daily wagers pathetic.
The protesters said that they had high hopes with BJP-PDP coalition government but all have been dashed to ground by both the parties after assuming power.
Chief Engineer PHE Jammu division, Sushil Kumar Aima said that they had forwarded all the documents of daily wagers to the administrative department and the further action has to be taken by them.
On being asked about starting of biometric attendance system, he said that nearly eighty percent work has been completed and after 100 percent completion, the system would be started.
