Escaping from 'choking atmosphere'; affluent come for shopping, stay in big hotels......! | Jammu witnesses 'huge influx' of families from Kashmir much ahead of Darbar Move | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 22: Ahead of Darbar Move this year, Jammu is witnessing huge influx of people from Kashmir Valley with hotel rooms packed , private accommodations much in demand and the bazaars of the city abuzz with a flurry of shopping activity, thanks to unrest in Kashmir which is stretching too long compelling families to flee for various reasons. As the situation across Kashmir valley is far from normal and the unrest refusing to die down the sentiments, fatigued and exhausted by continuous spell of closure of all establishments, both private and government, the people are running away in hordes from different parts of Valley. Sources in hotel industry here said the hotels and lodges are much in demand and witnessing a good occupancy rate due to influx of the families from Kashmir Valley. These are the people who are not a part of the annual Darbar Move influx to Jammu, sources said adding that most of them are coming out of a state of compulsion as they do not want the time of their wards in crucial stages of academic years to get wasted any longer, over two months already having gone down the drain in many ways. Even the rooms in residential areas are much in demand for rent much early this year as the number of families arriving here every day is growing fast, sources said, no matter this may be a makeshift arrangement for many. The tutorials and coaching centres proving coaching for professional exams are much sought after centres where parents seek admission for their wards to make up the loss of time and in order to keep pace with the syllabus all over the country for appearing in prestigious professional exams, sources in one of the popular coaching centres confirmed, adding that while this is making most of the centres accrue monetary benefits, at some places problem of accommodation and adjustment with local students has arisen as they are much ahead in terms of coverage of syllabus courses are concerned. One of the interesting aspects of Kashmir unrest that has a direct bearing on Jammu is that affluent and rich families from the Valley are booking big hotels, taking flights to stay here out of not just escaping the monotony, suffocation and boredom of volatile situation, but also to shop here in a free and fearless manner. Many such families are staying in hotels like KC Residency, Hotel Fortune Rivera and Hotel Ashok, money and heavy expenditure being no issue for them, sources said. On the other hand, the maddening rush on roads like Residency Road, Raghunath Bazaar, City Chowk and around Parade area which would herald arrival of Darbar here for the winter months, is being witnessed all around even in residential areas much ahead of shifting of the seat of governance to the winter capital this year. The officials and employees associated with Darbar Move have also sent in their families much early this year to Jammu. |
