PoJK DPs Front seeks final settlement, protests | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: DPs Front on Thursday held a protest in support of their long pending demands including their final settlement. Holding banners and placards in their hands, hundreds of DPs of 1947, 1965, 1971 gathered in Exhibition Ground near Press Club and raised slogans in support of their demands. President of the Front, Yudhvir Singh Chib, while addressing, said that DPs of 1947, 1965 and 1971, who lost everything during past operations are suffering for last 70 years while the successive governments both at Centre and State did not pay heed to their demands and always neglected them. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2000 crores for POJK DPs of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and Non Camp 1971 but one and half years has passed no action has been taken by both the governments so far in the regard. "Prior to Parliament and Assembly elections, POJK DPs had great hope on Central as well as State Governments but their expectations remained unfulfilled due to fraudulent behaviour and deeds," he said. Chib appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to look into the displaced persons issues personally and mitigate the same at the earliest otherwise they will come on roads and intensify their struggle for justice. Their demands include enlistment of left out families of DPs, grant of adequate compensation, maximum of Rs. 50 lakh per family except land; ownership rights for DPs of 1947, 1965, 1971, Non Camp-1971 for evacuee property, issue of ALC certificate to all DPs of POJK, 15% reservation quota for wards of DP's, reservation in employment, reservation of 24 Assembly seats, old age pensions to all DPs, Development Board be made to look after the welfare of DPs and their families etc. Others who spoke on the occasion were Jai Pal Sharma, R.P Singh, Kulvir Singh Chib, Kuldeep Singh, Sakandya Devi, Hari Singh, Pawan Slathia, RasaI Singh, Kehar Singh, Kashmir Singh, Raj Kumar, Babloo. |
