Mysterious death: Kalakote locals protest, block road

Rajouri Sept 22: Alleging a foul play, residents of Dali village in Kalakot of Rajouri district today held protest and blocked Rajouri-Jammu road for about seven hours demanding registration of murder case in the death of a tractor driver from their village in suspicious circumstances on Wednesday. Pertinently Jasbir Singh son of Sansar Singh of village Dali who was carrying bricks in his tractor trolley from Bhaker to Kalakot town for a MES contractor namely Sajjad Ahmed r/o Jawahar Nagar Rajouri reportedly met with an accident near Solki while avoiding a head on collision with a rashly driven motorcycle. However after legal formalities and postmortem, Dharamshal police on Wednesday handed over the body to family for his last rites. The body was taken to the village by the family members. Alleging a foul play, family members put the body of deceased on the road at Kalakot today at 8.00am and protested while asserting it was not an accident but Jasbir had become a victim of conspiracy hatched by the contractor on an issue of payments. Balkrishan Sharma, SDM, tehsildar and SHO Kalakot and SDPO, Nowshera Nawaz Choudhry rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but the protestors didn't budge from their demand and even started pelting stones on police. Meanwhile to control the situation police reportedly fired some rounds in the air. Later Atul Sharma, Addition SP, Nowshera rushed to Kalakot held discussions and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO, Nowshera and also apprehended the colleague of the contractor namely Shazad for questioning. The issue of locals' demand shifting of case from Dharamshal Police Station to Police Station Kalakot has been brought into the notice of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) who is authority to take decision in this matter," said Atul Sharma, ASP, Nowshera. He informed two persons have been rounded up for questioning and a case has also been registered at Police Station Dharamshal under FIR No82/16 u/s 304 A & 278 RPC.
