| SAC yet to clear Taj in Sedhav land grab case | | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Nov 28: State Accountability Commission (SAC) has not given clean chit to PHE Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din in the Sedhav land grab case.
What to talk of giving clean chit to Taj Mohi-ud-din, sources in the commission said that a complaint has been lodged accusing the PHE minister of grabbing forest land in Sedhav area of Shopian district in South Kashmir. Refusing to divulge the details, an officer in the commission said "I do not recall, commission having given any clean chit to the accused. The complaint is probably under investigation."
He added that SAC first receives the complaint and does not consider it till a preliminary inquiry does not establish charges aga-inst the accused. "Once the commission is satisfied that complainant has ample evidence to support the charges being leveled by him against a sitting minister, MLA, MLC or even Chief Minister in exceptional cases, it goes ahead with the rest of legal stipulations only then," added the source.
After the charges are established, a regular inq-uiry begins which includes summoning the accused, ca...

JAMMU, Nov 28: There are experts and politically awakened people in Jammu Pradesh who have been refusing to accord legiti-macy to the findings of the 2011 census operations. They have been saying that the population of Jammu Pradesh is more as compared to Kashmir and that those who finalized the census report "fudged" the census figures in order to put Kashmir at an advantageous position and once again harm the legitimate interests of the people of Jammu Pradesh.
One cannot but endorse their view. The available statistics do suggest that those who conducted the census operations and finalized the report have not done justice to Jammu Pradesh and that the difference between Kashmir ...

JAMMU, Nov 28: In Kathua district, the Cong-ress has a strong support-base in Bani, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar assembly constituencies, notwithstanding the fact that it could capture only Billawar seat in 2008. In these constituencies, the BJP is also a force to reckon with. As far as the NC is concerned, it has some support-base in Bani assembly constituency. And as for Kathua assembly constituency, it is the strong support-base of BSP and Congress. At present, this constituency is represented in the assembly by an Independent candidate. It is obvious that the local Congress leadership would like to field its candidates in all the five assembly constituencies. In Samba district ...
| | | | BJP trying to cash in on anti coalition sentiment among PR members | | Campaign punch: NC, Cong entrapping on hollow assurances | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 28: Even as the ruling coalition is throwing its all might in the ongoing campaign in support of candidates for forthcoming LC polls, a whole lot of uncertainty on the mood of Panchayat Me-mbers prevails . The fact that not all Panchayat me-mbers are happy with the government for a host of reasons is making both NC as well as Congress worried, though both the parties are trying their best to 'woo' them by all means. BJP, though not having stronger stakes too is on the job, trying to cash in on the 'anti government' sentiment of a majority of Panches and Sarpanches in many areas.
BJP has put up its two candidates in Jammu region and its one candidate is contes...

Jammu, Nov 28: The National Conference game plan of desperate measure to secure win of its candidate in the forthcoming MLC elections stands exposed when chief minister had a meeting with the expelled seven BJP MLAs.
The expelled BJP MLAs-though latter denied- had called CM as most forthcoming and secured this seat in the Assembly, clearly reflecting reciprocation of his stand in the next elections.
NC it appears that is cagey about winning the election and had already conceded this defeat. Party knows that in Jammu region, where BJP had secured 11 seats in last Assembly elections- it wouldn't be possible to secure win of their candidates if it can't find support of...
| | | | No administrative effort to recall IAS/IPS officers on Central deputation from J&K | | | | early times report
Jammu, Nov 28: Jammu and Kashmir bureaucracy and police face one of their most serious challenges not from outside, but within because of the crippling shortage of IAS and IPS cadre officers who are on 'cooling assignments' outside the state and obviously reluctant to join back.
This has resulted in an administrative situation where nearly one third of the sanctioned strength in the IAS and slightly less in the IPS is lying vacant.
It is surprising that while other states like Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka etc have been approaching the union government for repatriation of its officers in the IAS and the IPS are on deputation besides an increas...
