| NC wary of silent political volcano | | | | early times report
Jammu, Dec 9: National Conference is shaken by the silent political volcano of the MLC elections results, though the Chief Minister is deliberately putting up mask of jubilation to keep party cadre intact.
Senior party leaders have privately admitted that results have proved the party has slipped considerably and it is serious warning.
"There is nothing to rejoice about the result. Even though we have managed to win, mainly because of the alliance with Congress, the margin victory clearly proves that things are not working for us. Senior leadership sniffing defeat is now trying to get into the lap of Cong which could prove further detrimental," said senior NC Minister.
The point made by the NC Minister was echoed by the Cong leader Abdul Gani Malik today. He said PDP had made huge inroads into the bastions of both NC and Cong and it's a serious politically development and both parties shouldn't see much into the results.
PDP, which contested elections both against NC and Cong combine and also against the entire government machinery, lost the two seats in K...

| | | | 'Beg represented Abdullah and Parthasarthy' | | Autopsy of 1975 Accord | | | Bashir Assad
Jammu, Dec 9: National Conference General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad's controversial statement on the authenticity of the 1975 Indira-Abdullah (Beg-Parthasarthy) accord has generated fresh debate in the state among political as well as intellectual circles. The statement, most likely will again put the NC leadership, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his son Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in trouble from within and outside. It merits a mention here that Sheikh Nazir had said that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was not directly involved in the 1975 exercise and that it was Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg and G Parthasarthy who signed the agreement.
Though opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) ...
| | | | 1975 Accord: Nazir proposes, Beg disposes | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 9: Senior NC leader and Member Parliament Dr Mehboob Beg has taken another very senior party leader and general secretary Sheikh Nazir head on and rubbished his claim that Sheikh Abdullah did not sign the 1975 Accord that had led to the untimely demise of the then Congress government in Jammu & Kashmir and installation of the father and founder NC and a votary of plebiscite Sheikh Abdullah as the state Chief Minister after a long gap of 22 years.
Nazir had on Friday last accused New Delhi of following the policy of "might is right in Kashmir" and cunningly bemoaned saying that the "Kashmiris continue to suffer for no fault of theirs". "Even after suffering f...
| | | | Mufti blows punch on NC on LC poll performance | | Says PDP has ended era of monopolistic politics | | | early times report
Jammu, Dec 9 : Three days after declaration of the results of Legislative Council polls, People's Democratic Party today broke its silence on the outcome in terms of performance of key political parties in the contest. And like a seasoned politician PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took a dig at its rival NC, contending the performance of the PDP amply reflected that PDP is fast emerging a strong, credible political force acceptable to all the regions of the state. The punch line in former Chief Minister's comment made today was the political blow he slapped on NC by saying that the LC poll outcome in terms of votes bagged by the party clearly shows PDP had ...
| | | | JKPCC chief overtly and covertly helping NC | | Pre Poll Alliance | | | Rustam
JAMMU, Dec 9: Is JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz helping the National Conf-erence which he served for many years before joining the Congress party? (Soz was one of the ideologues of the NC. He was also an ardent believer in the concept of greater autonomy, bordering on virtual sovereignty. He organized a couple of seminars on autonomy and also got published a book on autonomy.) What is the meaning and implications of what he said yesterday regarding pre-poll alliance with the NC on the sidelines of the thanks giving functions held at the Pradesh Congress Comm-ittee (PCC) headquarters in Srinagar and Jammu? What exactly was his message?
The answers to these questions are simple and ...
| | | | Panthers Party blaming ruling coalition for its poor performance | | Causes Of Defeat | | | Neha
JAMMU, Dec 9: Legislative Council elections for the four reserved seats were out on December 6, with the ruling coalition winning all the seats. Ever since then, the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leadership, like the rejected BJP, has been accusing the National Conference (NC) and the Congress party, which have been ruling the state since January 2009, of violating model code of conduct, misusing official machinery and rigging the elections and asserting day in and day out that had the ruling coalition not resorted to unfair means, it would have performed much better. One cannot repudiate outright the charges leveled by the JKNPP leadership, as both the NC and the Co...

Jammu, Dec 9: Euphoric about the victory on four seats of Legislative Council, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has once again expressed his desire to contest the 2014 Assembly elections jointly with its alliance partner Congress. While he said it a couple of times earlier in recent past, he formally proposed the idea in the Working Committee meeting of National Conference held in Jammu on Saturday. The idea has however bee dismissed outright by the senior Congress leader including J&K PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz , contending the final decision over the matter lay purely with High Command of Congress.

| | | | Why is Omar seeking alliance with Cong? | | For smooth governance or promoting corruption! | | | early times report
jammu, Dec 9: For the past few months Omar Abdullah has been repeatedly saying that fighting corruption in a coalition was difficult. He repeated his statement while addressing the Hind-ustan Times summit titled "What India needs: Persp-ective of you-ng leaders" in New Delhi.
"I believe that you can fight corruption but I also believe it is impossible to eradicate corruption in a coalition dispensation and that is the way it is. This is my opinion and you can have yours", he told the audience comprising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Mini-ster from Punjab.
A question arises. If Omar firmly believes that coalition breeds and promotes corruption, why is...
