BATOTE, FEB 11: The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah today inspected the alternate road alignment at Assar and climbed up to the last height of trans-shipment route from Batote side. To feel the degree of difficulty the people were facing in trans-shipment, the Chief Minister climbed up to 1½ km to reach the highest point. He took an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing works, following the caving in of the road-stretch between Assar and Tungral on Friday last.
On his arrival from Srinagar, the Chief Minister directly flew to Batote and later went to Assar by road. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Ramban.
This is the Chief Minister's second visit to the area in less than a week to get a firsthand review of the progress of the restoration work.
Expressing satisfaction over the trans-shipment arrangements made by the administration, the Chief Minister climbed up and down nearly three kilometres and en route interacted with the general public, who were part of the trans-shipment of people and travelling on ponies and on foot. Jammu, Feb11: Underlining the role of an effective and responsible Opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today said that people are expecting more from her party than the government.
Mehbooba was talking to reporters here today after she was elected as leader of the PDP legislature party.
The PDP president said that her party wants to give government ample time to perform and deliver on the its promises of governance while being an active watchdog in the opposition. “We don’t want to make early judgments, let them perform and deliver”, Mehbooba said when she was asked to comment on the efficiency of the new coalition government.

Jammu, Feb 11-Months after it reached an agreement with the government on the use of land during the Amarnath yatra, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) today said it will protest in Jammu on February 13 against the non-implementation of the deal.
With elections round the corner, the Samiti accused Omar Abdullah government of dragging its feet on the issue, saying the present government has "not even cared" to meet the committee leaders who tried to resolve the issue.
