SRINAGAR, Feb 27: Taking cognizance of the resentment against Minister of Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, among the Shias and against the Shia cleric-politician, Maulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, among the Sunnis, Omar Abdullah-led coalition government has deputed senior National Conference (NC) leader and former MLA of Tangmarg, Dr Mustafa Kamaal, to defuse the sectarian strife in over two dozen villages in Pattan-Magam belt of Central Kashmir. Ansari’s brother, Maulvi Abid Ansari, and Dr Kamaal today visited Shia and Sunni villages respectively with the administration’s facilitation amid curfew in the worst affected locality and reports said that tension began to recede by late this evening.

At least two kilograms of explosive powder was recovered by police from bushes at Manda near here Friday evening. The spot is about 100 ft from the Manda police checking point and nearly 150 ft from the giant gates of the Amar Singh Palace.
Packed in a polythene bag, the explosive also contained shrapnels, police sources said. The bag was recovered by army troops during routine checking in the area. Two persons were arrested Friday evening from Batal Baliyan in Udhampur for allegedly selling locally made cement in Ambuja bags.
Cops of Udhampur police station raided a shop at Batal Baliyan yesterday evening and seized filled and empty bags of Ambuja and J K Cements, a local cement manufacturing unit.Police sources said a total of 190 filled and 200 empty bags were seized from the shop.
Sources said during investigation, police found that the accused had been selling cement of J K Cements in Ambuja bags. Two persons, who owned the shop and who were present there at the time of police raid, were arrested by the cops, the sources added.
