According to informed sources, Professor Riyaz Punjabi has appointed a retired police officer as his security advisor. The person, who now advises the Vice Chancellor on security issues, happens to be his childhood friend. Besides a vehicle, the security advisor gets Rs 10000 as honorarium.
"It is unheard off," says a retired professor, adding, "I don't know about other countries but in India, no university has a security advisor for its Vice Chancellor."

Police sources said the body of a youth was found lying by the roadside at Domana. After the completion of legal formalities, it was evacuated by cops to the GMC Hospital mortuary.

JAMMU, March 09: Amid heightened terror threats across the country, an infiltration bid by four Pakistani militants was foiled late Monday night by a patrol of 59 Bn of BSF on the International Border (IB) in Ramgarh sub-sector, about 35 km from here.
Four armed Pakistani militants appeared on the IB ahead of Malluchak border outpost in Ramgarh sub-sector at about 11 pm on Monday. While two stayed on the IB, the other two marched into the Indian territory, BSF sources said.

JAMMU, Mar 9: For the gross misuse of the authority he enjoyed as confidential assistant to railway recruitment board chairman in 1992, a senior railway clerk was today convicted in a fake recruitment scam by a court and awarded nine years rigorous imprisonment.
The fraud was detected in 1992 and investigation in the case was completed by the anti-corruption wing of CBI in 1994. Ramesh Kumar was posted as confidential assistant to the then railway recruitment board chairman, Jammu, from March 1992 to September 1992.
