Jammu, March 15: Despite increase in the power generation in state sector after commissioning of Baglihar project, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has imposed heaving costs on Jammu and Kashmir for violating the grid discipline.
The Power Development Department has confirmed that the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has recently imposed serious penalties on Jammu and Kashmir for overdrawal of power from Northern Grid and violation of Grid discipline. The PDD owes more than Rs.317 crore to Northern Grid and other States on account of past interest on overdrawals of power alone.

New Delhi, March 15: Election Commission has disqualified 3,423 candidates for not filing the details of the expenses incurred during the last Lok Sabha or recent assembly polls which they contested.
Of them, a major chunk of 1,075 candidates are from Uttar Pradesh and 616 from Bihar who had contested the Assembly Polls in these two states respectively.
They have been disqualified for three years, the EC said, adding that almost 99 percent of the candidates were Independents.

The government also issued orders for the detention of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed and cricket-turned- politician Imran Khan, the leader of Tehrik-e-Insaf party, both of whom are in hiding, local media reports said.

New Delhi, Mar 15: Army has refused to participate in the inquiry being conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir government into the killing of two innocent civilians in Sopore town (North Kashmir) last month, saying such a probe was not valid.
The inquiry, initiated by state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, had blamed the army personnel present at the site of encounter for not verifying the claims of their informers before shooting down the innocents.
The civilian inquiry had asked the army to present before it the personnel who were involved in the killing but sources said the Brigade Command informed through a letter that such an inquiry was not valid under the Army Act.

Jammu, March 15: In the midst of Lok Sabha election season the cross-LoC trade and travel is becoming a hot political slogan but lost in the political din, the process is dying its unsung death.
