| CBI inquiry into Dr Lone’s killing likely; Home Dept. seeks legal opinion | | | | Early Times Reporter

Jammu and Kashmir Government has started an exercise on sending a request to the CBI for holding a probe in the assassination of Dr Ghulam Nabi Lone, a former Minister of state for Education.
This is being done following Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s, announcement on the floor of the Assembly in mid-January that the case related to the killing of Dr Ghulam Nabi Lone, Minister on October 18, 2005 will be referred to the CBI for a detailed probe, the state’s Home Department has started the process for seeking CBI assistance. Dr Lone had fallen to the bullets of unidentified gunmen in his official residence in the high security area of Tulsi Bagh in Srinagar.
Commissioner Home, S .S. Kapoor, said here today “It is under process .The case has been referred to the legal department for its opinion’’ and after receipt of the opinion from the Legal Department, the case would be referred to the CBI.

At least 19 persons have been reported injured in a powerful car explosion that rocked the heart of summer capital Srinagar this afternoon.
In another militancy related incident, the security forces achieved a massive success by eliminating four hardcore militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba in a remote area of Doda district.
Reports said that 19 persons are reported to have been injured in a massive car bomb explosion in the heart of Srinagar late Wednesday afternoon. The blast went off on a flyover at the high security Jahangir Chowk locality, adjacent to the civil secretariat and the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
