JAMMU, Mar 7: Raising the issue in a vehement manner in the Upper House, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Panthers Party today pointed fingers at the Floriculture Department for what they alleged back door appointments on contractual and adhoc basis having been made by the Government.
PDP member Ashraf Mir today raised the query regarding appointments in Gardens and Floriculture Department in the House today.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of Minister of State for Floriculture, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Mir said, “If they are working for last three years, they will demand for making them permanent”.
PDP member Murtaza Khan sought details on number of workers who were recruited in these departments.
Gurezi informed the House that no contractual/ Adhoc engagements have been made in the department during the past three years, adding the department has engaged 311 casual/seasonal labourers in Kashmir division and 303 in Jammu Division on need basis from time to time for upkeep and maintenance of gardens from 2009.

Jammu, Mar 7: Coalition partners National Conference and Congress have once again managed to sail smoothly in the Legislative Council polls, though waters appeared to have turned turbulent for some time with an independent candidate in fray supported by opposition PDP. Thanks to the breakaway group of BJP , whom the NC led government has kept to draw political mileage in its favour as and when situation emerges for ‘exploiting’ them. Coalition narrowly managed one seat because the group of seven MLAs abstained from voting, a political ploy that went in favor of NC and Congress. In all 11 members abstained from voting in the polls.

Jammu, Mar 7: With JKPCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz having joined the chorus for withdrawal of AFSPA, the Congress feels embarrassed. Like Omar, Soz also wants to woo the voters by demanding repeal of the law but it ended ina fiasco. The Congress party has distanced itself from Soz's demand.
They have stood by the central leadership which believes the people engaged in Valley believe time was not ripe for lifting of the law. Soz found no supporters. Even the BJP which and supported Omar on the issue a few days ago have accused him of being irresponsible.
