EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 12: In a move, apparently aimed at improving police image which showed signs of deterioration after Shaleen Gupta's cold-blooded murder, Jammu-range DIG Farooq Khan today said the boy had been killed 15 minutes after his abduction. It may be mentioned that Shaleen's alleged abductors and murderers -- Darvinder Singh, son of Tirath Singh of Nai Basti, and Gagandeep Singh, son of Paramjeet Singh of Gole Gujral -- were rounded up two hours, or so after the kidnapping and then surprisingly freed.
In a hurriedly called press conference, the DIG did the "much-needed" damage control exercise when he said the boy was killed by the accused 15 minutes after his kidnapping.
"We could not save the boy because he was murdered 15 minutes after he was kidnapped. Soon after we received information, we picked up two persons on suspicion and after interrogation they broke down that they had kidnapped and murdered the boy in cold-blood," the DIG claimed.
Khan's statement came at a time when the post-mortem report, which could throw light on the time of the murder,...

| | | | Stone pelters, CRPF teach lessons of objectivity to scribes | | Being in the second oldest profession? | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT

Strangely enough, the stone pelters accused them of having a truck with the security agencies and the men in uniform also had a grievance against them. They feel scribes glorify the stone pelters. The situation can be better explained by the following verse of Ghalib: "Zahid tung nazar nay mujay kafir samja; aur kafir ye samajta hai ki musalmaan hoon main (The worshipper took me for an infidel and the infidel thinks I am a Muslim).
But then the scribes have to bear in mind that they belong to the second oldes...
