When as the Old City areas remained an epicenter of violent protests, the Police today unleashed a reign of terror in Muthi area where people were beaten up after barging into their houses.
After four days intensified battles in the Old City areas, the presence of troops was today cut down from Parade, Kachi Chhawni, Raj Tilak Road and Pacca Danga since this morning. With fewer numbers of troops present in these areas, the intensity of clashes came down considerably.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti has extended the shut down call for another three days and warned of a sustained agitation if the issue was not resolved immediately. Samiti convener Advocate Leela Kiran Sharma said that the Governor was not responsive to the situation and only he is to be blamed if situation further aggravated in Jammu region.

First time ever since its formation in 1999, the Peoples Democratic Party could not celebrate its foundation day at its Jammu headquarters.
Even though the PDP office in posh Gandhi Nagar has been wearing a deserted look ever since it came under a mob attack earlier this year but the party leaders had been claiming that the foundation day ceremony will match the overwhelm of previous years. Protesters agitating for restoration of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in South Kashmir today went berserk and damaged electronic power meters installed at houses and business establishments in the winter capital.
''Over 1,000 electronic meters have been damaged by the protesting youths who went door to door in the Old City and nearby areas of winter capital,'' a UNI correspondent reported from the area.
