| Jammu bounces back to normalcy | | Curfew lifted, agitation temporarily called off; Bar still firm | | | Early Times Reporter

As incited passions subsided after the political ruckus, the winter capital city of Jammu and other parts of region were today seen bouncing back to normalcy as authorities first lifted curfew and then extended relaxation for the day during which no incident of violence has been reported.
As the day passed off peacefully and the organizations spearheading agitation too put the protests in cold for a week, the authorities, later in the evening, lifted the ongoing curfew completely. It may be mentioned here that the curfew was imposed in Jammu on June 1 following protests and demonstrations on revocation of land transfer order from Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. The authorities said that though the curfew has been lifted but the prohibitory restrictions under section 144 will continue to remain in place.
Giving further stability to the situation, the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti –the multiparty conglomerate of Hindu organizations spearheading the present agitation –has also deferred its agitation for one week. This decision was taken in a meeting ... | |

With everyone waiting for a formal announcement, Jammu and Kashmir was today clearly headed for the Governor’s rule as no party has shown any interest in staking claim for the next government formation. Chances of keeping Ghulam Nabi Azad as caretaker Chief Minister too appeared grim. Once the Governor NN Vohra announces the taking over of situation by his office, this will be the fourth time when Jammu and Kashmir comes under the direct rule.
Highly placed sources said that after consultations with the leaders of various parties, the Governor has sent a report to the central government for a final view on the future course of action.

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has demanded building of a 'Amarnath House' or 'Vaishnodevi House' for Hindus on the lines of 'Haj House' in Mumbai for Muslims.
"We are reiterating this demand of all Hindus," an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana,' edited by Thackeray, said.
"Several corporations have been set up for Muslims. Now, set up a corporation for welfare of Amarnath and Vaishnodevi pilgrims," the editorial said.
Questioning whether the Vilasrao Deshmukh-led government in Maharashtra was really secular, Thackeray said Deshmukh's secularism will be truly felt if even Hindus were benefitted as a result of concessions to Muslims.
