| A pact, which looks forward | | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu | Aug 31
Seen as a victory of the people of Jammu region, the resolution of ongoing crises on Shri Amarnath Shrine land transfer controversy seems to have become possible only after a pragmatic approach of both the state government and the representatives of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti as the final agreement is a forward looking document and not just a “time buying deal”.
Avoiding any verbal jugglery which could have posed problems at some stage, the agreement says that the the State Government shall set aside for the use by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, exclusively, the land in Baltal and Domail (Compartment No. 63/S, Sindh Forest Division) compris...

| | | | Dialogue on separatists issues impossible | | | | Nirbhay Jammual
The PDP patron,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, has suggested to the Government of India to initiate talks with the coordination committee constituted by the Kashmir separatists on the same pattern that it followed in holding talks with the committee constituted by the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti. He is oppoed to unilateral dialogue with the Samiti leaders and does not favour any compromise on the land row.The Mufti is right as far as taking leaders of both the regions into confidence for defusing the turmoil and tension. He is not wrong when he says the centre should hold talks with the separatists, including the Hurriyat Conference leaders.

| | | | SC widens debt waiver ambit for Kashmir | | | | New Delhi | Aug 31
Militancy changes many things, even the concept of a debt waiver scheme that was announced in 1997 for small entrepreneurs in militancy-hit J&K.
The scheme, as originally envisaged, was meant to waive loans up to Rs 50,000 taken by those engaged in tourism, transport, trade, hotel, houseboat business and retail trade.
However, the Supreme Court on Friday gave a liberal interpretation to the scheme and extended the loan waiver facility to those who had taken money from banks for purchase of buffaloes and sheep.
The moot question raised before the apex court by the J&K Rural Bank was — could the HC have taken such a liberal view to count purchase of buffaloes and rear...
