| Border people for creating third defense ring, setting up of VDCs | | | Et Report
JAMMU, Sept 28: The recent twin Fidayeen attacks in Samba and Hiranagar towns has scared the people living near international border and Line of control from Pooch to Kathua and the demand for beefing security in border belt is gaining momentum.
To contain the increasing influx of armed desperados from across the border the demand for creating a third defense line is also gaining momentum with leaders of various political parties also joining the border people in raising the demand.
The denizens on border and LoC who have always faced uncertainty and turmoil right from 1947 are grappling with worst problem of cross border terrorism over last 24 years. They were uprooted so many times during the indo Pak war and during Kargil war in 2000 when tension on borders increased. But their worries increased manifold over past one decade when Pakistan started infiltration of Fidayeen groups from across who indulged in suicide attacks after entering this side in the guise of army men to terrorize the people and create fear psychosis among them.
The people are scared by recent Fidayeen attacks at Samba and Hiranagar as these attacks have created a lot of panic in the border belt with people demanding creation of Village Defense committees (VDCs) across the border belt to create a third dense line to counter the terrorism and chase the Fidayeen to finish.
According to sources the prominent people of various border villages have decided to hold a meeting and take up the issue with various political parties in the State to seek their support for the setting up of VDCs. They have also demanded that the VDCs be provided with sophisticated weapons and they should remain under the control of concerned police Station having a liaison with concerned army battalion and BSF, sources added.
Sources said it will serve two purposes one creation of third defense ring will help in containg the influx of terrorsits inside the Indian territory and second it will also provide employment to unemployed youth living along LoC and border. The demand was supported by BJP, NPP, NCP, Shiv Sena, VHP, Bajrang Dal and various KP organizations. Sources said the prominent border people have also decided to take up the issue with army and BSF officers to solicit their opinion on the issue. The border people are also up in arms against the revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of Army from sensitive areas of State as well as disbanding of VDCs. |
