| Shopian to resume normal chores today | | Shifting of CRPF camp commences | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Sept 28: South Kashmir's Shopian town which remained shut for 22 consecutive days will resume its normal chores tomorrow as authorities began shifting the much controversial central reserve police force (CRPF) camp from the main town where five people were killed in two separate incidents. According to reports, a series of interaction between the authorities and civil society groups including Majlis-e-Mushawarat, Bar Association, fruit growers and contractors led to an understanding about shifting of the CRPF camp in a phased manner. According to the Deputy Commissioner Shopian Bashir Ahmad Bhat, the process of shifting the CRPF camp has already begun and district administration will try its best to complete the process within next few days and bring back the normalcy in the town area. However demanding total shifting of the camp by October 10, the people decided to resume their routine work from Sunday, September 30. They had threatened agitation if the deadline was not met. Reports said the civil society groups after meeting in a local mosque decided to observe shutdown on October 4 to remind the administration of shifting the camp by October 10. The meeting decided to observe a strike on October 7 in case the district administration failed to initiate the shifting process. As reported consecutively by early times, Sopian observed shut down for consecutive twenty two days since October 7 after Five people were killed in two different firing incidents allegedly by the CRPF men. The government has already started a probe in the matter after Jammu and kashmir Police claimed that three out of people killed on September 7 firing incident were civilians and had no militancy links, besides another civilian killed in September 11 firing incident was also a civilian. Pertinently Shopian town was under strict curfew till September 22 and after that local of the area refused to resume the normal work until the demand of shifting the CRPF camp from the Gagren area is not fulfilled.
