Words fail Security officials to explain serious lapse
9/28/2013 11:28:37 PM
ET Report
Jammu, Sept 28: The security forces are at loss of word to explain the complete systematic failure in anticipating and thwarting the terrorist attack in Jammu in which 10 people were killed.
The issue was discussed in length at the security meeting reviewed by the Chief Minister. According to sources, the top officials of different security forces and agencies failed to provide any convincing answer to the Chief Minister.
"All of them infact admitted to their failures in anticipating the attack," said a senior official who attended the meeting.
The important point discussed in the meeting was even after the terrorists had struck at police station then how could they move freely for another 20mt without being spotted and also managed to get into the Army unit.
The officials also couldn't explain that whey there was no effective communication in real time despite the fact that Army unit in the vicinity of the police station, where already four police personnel were martyred.
The officials also couldn't explain why the nakas were not put in immediately to stop the movement of vehicles which could have prevented further damage.
"It's known fact that terrorists always hit at Army installations. They should have been alerted in real time and also the fact the Army units must been more alert after such an attack," said a senior official.
The attack exposed the element of complacency which had come in the system as no major attack had taken place in the Jammu during the last five years.
The officials said when border was tense and an important meeting of Prime Minister was scheduled to take place, gives the more reason to be more alert.
"Terrorists had probably managed to get all the inputs about the State of alertness in the Jammu and also the possible entry points as border becomes susceptible during monsoons. They were highly trained and exposed the complete shallowness of system in tracking them down, even within our own territory. It's big mistake and exposes the security scenario in the State," said a senior official in the Police Department.
