| Yet another shoot out at By-pass | | Sanat Nagar searched, no arrests made | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Hardly five days after carrying out a deadly attack on the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Hazuri Bagh here in the summer capital suspected militants fired towards security forces personnel in the Sanat Nagar area on the bye-pass connecting Baramulla with Srinagar and subsequently Jammu. The firing incident caused panic in the area and security forces cordoned off some of the localities falling in the vicinity of the bye-pass area. No arrests were made by the security forces personnel with the cordon being lifted after some hours of the incident. While some of the reports suggested that the suspected militants attacked the Army convoy passing through the highway some other reports suggested that the militants carried out an attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp positioned in the un-finished quarters of RRL on the road leading towards the Gouripora locality. The militants fired some shots on the security forces personnel and the same was retaliated with the firing incident leading to panic in the entire area. The incident occurred at about 12:30 PM and the encounter between the two sides turned out to be brief one. There was brief exchange of fire between the militants and security forces personnel. The gun shots rattled the ambience of the area and the firing incident disturbed both the pedestrian and traffic movement on the highway. One person identified as Ishfaq Ahmad resident of Noorpora-Tral was injured in the incident after he slipped as the encounter was going on. Immediately after the incident the security forces personnel laid a siege around the Budshah Colony and Baghi Hyder Colony in order to nab the militants who fled after carrying out the attack. Some of the eye-witnesses said that two militants riding a motor-cycle fired towards the security forces personnel. However, these reports were not confirmed by police officials with investigations being launched in the case. Senior police and security forces officials rushed to the site of the incident and took stock of the situation emanating after the brief encounter. The firing incident led to standstill of all the activities on the otherwise busy bye-pass and the shopkeepers downed their shutters while ensuring their safety. The shops remained closed for the entire day and the bye-pass wore a deserted look for some hours with hardly few people and vehicles moving about. As the firing was going on rumours got ripened that Fidayeen have entered a security forces camp in the Sanat Nagar and both the sides got engaged in a gun fight. Later on it turned out to be a firing incident with no involvement of Fidayeen. Army and CRPF personnel took position on the bye-pass after the firing incident and the situation turned normal only in the evening. It would be in place to mention here that militants fired upon CISF personnel while they were busy in making purchases at Hazuri Bagh on September 23.
