| Dilapidated condition of Bhanderkot bridge endangers commuters' lives | | | early times report KISHTWAR, Sept 28: Bhanderkot village situated some 12 kms from Kishtwar District HQ and famous for the historical shrine of Sufi saint Shah Zan-ul-Abidin (RTA) and a temple, but the only bridge which connects Kishtwar District HQ with other areas of the District is in worst condition threatening the life of thousands of people who travelled on this road every day. This wooden bridge constructed some 100 year ago over mighty river Chenab has become a death trap over the years due to its deteriorated condition which is a cause of concern for the local people. The people said that the wooden planks used in construction of the said bridge have worn out and it was not easy for the people to cross this bridge easily. The people said that GREF has taken over the construction work of Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar road project in hands some 15 years ago and added that the said bridge is also comes under the ambit of the said road project. They said that despite several requests and protest by the local people and drivers, the GREF authorities fail to construct the concrete bridge. The people alleged that instead of constructing the bridge, the GREF officials made temporary repair of the bridge and withdraw the fake bills on account of cosmetic renovation. The people demanded immediate construction of Bhanderkot Bridge before some major incident took place. |
