Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 1: Students of 4th semester of Law department today refused to take their exam - Law of Evidence - after a verbal brawl with the superintendent over the arrangement of seating in the examination hall. The problem took place after heated exchanges between a student and the superintendent. The student was joined by other students in the hall. A total anarchy was alleged to be prevailing in the Law Department's examination hall. Sources alleged that the students who are belong to influential families take their seats according to their will while the others are forced to sit on other benches. Sources said that even HoD of Law Department was not able to pacify the situation and he acted as a mute spectator to the whole incident. Castigating the JU administration, students said the postponement of exams had become a routine in law department and this exam was postponed for the second time. "Already our session is delayed and it is getting delayed further," they regretted. Sources alleged that some professors were favouring the influential students. Following the brawl, JU security officer and assistant controller examinations had rushed to the department to make deliberations with the students and the HoD. Some students said when they approached the HoD, he said, he said "Go and asks your friends." It seemed as if the HoD had lost authority, they alleged. One of the professors, wishing anonymity, said "If we use our powers, we can tighten their screws but we do not want to do so. JU security has also not been given powers to handle the situation." Despite repeated attempts, controller examination, Keshav Sharma was not available for comments.
