HC seeks MHA response on relief to JK flood victims | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 1 : Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked Union Home Ministry to clear stand after state government confronted it on providing details regarding the flood affected in the state. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a Division Bench of Justice MuzaffarHussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey passed the directions after Commissioner Secretary to Government, Revenue Department, who was present in person, rebutted the claims by MHA. On last date of hearing, Assistant Solicitor General of India S AMakroo provided a Communication dated 24th November, stating that till date, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Disaster Management Section had not received any information from the State government about partially and fully damaged Pucca And Kacha houses. "Even bank details of the house owners were not provided to Central Government by the state Government." However in the compliance report filed by the Commissioner Secretary Revenue specifically stated that the contents of the communication were false. "In these circumstances, Makroo shall have to seek instructions and take a clear stand. Makroo shall have to also inform that after the receipt of aforesaid communications by the Central Government, what steps have been taken for transferring the amount into the accounts of persons about whom Information Is already given to them," the court said Meanwhile, Advocate General M I Qadri submitted that a decision has been taken by the State Government to provide an amount of Rs 5000 per month on account of rent to those of the families whose structures were fully damaged in two cities of Srinagar and Jammu, and in Municipal areas of other districts an amount of Rs. 3500 per month will be paid. Further, he said, an amount of Rs 2000 will be paid in rural areas. He submitted that before next date of hearingon Monday, all such families will be paid the amount either by transferring the same into their accounts wherever account numbers are available, or through cheques to those persons whose account numbers have not been received. "State Government as also the Central Government to file fresh responses in the light of observations made in the order. Before next date the State Government and Central Government shall ensure that requisite relief/financial assistance reaches to the affected families without any further delay," the court said, expressing hope that by next date of hearing the flood sufferers shall have no grievances on the the two counts. |
