Rajouri to witness triangular contest Constituency Profile 12/2/2014 12:05:18 AM Sandeep Bhat Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 1: Rajouri constituency is all set to witness a triangular contest beyween BJP, National Conference and Congress candidates and may throw a surprise. In the last Parliamentary elections people of this region overwhelming supported the BJP candidate and voted briskly in his favour irrespective of caste color or religion. The refugees played an important role, while as Pahari and Gujjar votes also made a difference. In Rajouri, this time there are three major players in the fray, Mirza Abdul Rashid, who is fighting on NC ticket, Shabir Khan former health minister, who is contesting on Congress ticket and is a sitting MLA and ChourdaryTalib Hussain former MP and presently contesting on BJP ticket. Mirza Abdul Rashid is a former Member Parliament and speaker of the Legislative Assembly but he is considered as an outsider as he is a Pahari. The Congress candidate and sitting MLA Shabir Khan, who had to step down as Minister of state for Health after a lady doctor alleged that he tried to molest her in Srinagar, may face the wrath of the people for his alleged immoral act as the memories of the incident are still afresh in the minds of people. The PDP has fielded lesser known candidate and is seen as no competitor to these candidates. Now everyone is eyeing Choudhary Talib Hussain who is a Gujjar and has a great following in the area. The Gujjar vote and sizable number of Hindu votes are likely to fall into his kitty. Talking to Early Times Vibodh Gupta, senior BJP leader exuded hope that Choudhary Talib Hussain would turn the tables on the Congress and PDP candidates, as he is riding high on Modi wave. "People want change and it is imminent now. BJP candidate has an edge over others," Gupta claimed.
