Naqvi, Smriti hoodwinking people of Jammu | Singing different tunes | | Masood Malik
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 1: The BJP has lost its way in Jammu & Kashmir. It has no agenda. It is unlikely to open its account in Kashmir and it is also unlikely to improve its position in those constituencies which are still to go to the polls. Its poll campaign, unlike the Kashmiri parties, is a flop, notwithstanding the fact that a number of BJP ministers and many party workers from across the country are campaigning for the BJP in the state. It will suffer a massive defeat in Kashmir despite the fact that it discarded its ideology immediately after the poll process was set-in-motion. The people of Kashmir will reject the BJP, as the Kashmiri leadership has been successful in convincing the people in the Valley that the BJP is committed to abrogating Article 37 and diluting the state's special status. The Kashmiri leadership is asking the Kashmiri people not to trust the BJP, saying it might not have referred to Article 370 in its Vision Document, but this provision is very much part of the party's national manifesto. They are right. The BJP national manifesto does say that the BJP is committed to abrogating Article 370. Those from the BJP who have been campaigning in Kashmir have come to realize that the chances of the BJP candidates in the Valley are bleak and the result has been that the BJP star campaigners are trying their best to convince that the Kashmir that the BJP has nothing to do with Article 370, that it would not abrogate or change it and that it would leave the final decision on Article 370 on Kashmiri people. As late as on November 30, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that nobody from his party ever talked of scrapping Article 370. He addressed rallies in Homeshalibugh and Devsar in Kashmir. Talking to reporters after addressing a public rally in Harnag area of Homeshalibugh Constituency, he said: "Who said Article 370 is going to be revoked? We have always maintained that there can be a healthy discussion and the issue can be pondered over". The BJP leaders, including the likes of Naqvi, are murdering Shyama Prasad Mookerjee again and again to pamper the communal constituency in Kashmir, but the BJP is destined to bite dust in the Valley. This is what the ground reality in Kashmir says. The campaign of the national BJP leaders as well as Prime Minister Modi is not clicking in Jammu province as well. The reason is that they are talking about Kashmir in Jammu and taking the people of Jammu province for a ride. The educated section and middle class in Jammu have been feeling disappointed. They are saying that the BJP, which got a massive mandate in Jammu in May 2014, dis abandoned Jammu province in its bid to pamper Kashmir and appease "anti-national constituency in the Valley". That is the reason BJP ministers like SmritiIrani are holding out a promise to the people of Jammu province that the BJP, if came to power, would appoint someone from Jammu as the state chief minister. Seeking full mandate for the BJP in the assembly elections and addressing election rallies at Ramnagar in Udhampur district to seek vote for party candidates, Ajay Nanda and R S Pathania, respectively, Human Resource Development Minister SmritiIrani on Sunday promised that if voted to power the BJP will install the Chief Minister from Jammu region. So, on Sunday, Naqvi and Smriti sung two tunes in two different regions. In Kashmir, Naqvi reassured the anti-Jammu forces and champions of Article 370 that the BJP shared their view on the state's special status. In Jammu, Irani sought to hoodwink the people by telling them that the BJP stood for Chief Minister from Jammu. This is the nature of BJP's poll campaign. Any party that speaks in different languages in one state cannot win over its people.
