World Aids day celebrated

Jammu, Dec 1: Government Degree College Budhal observed AIDS day. At this Occasion a guest Lecture on AIDS was delivered by Abdul Lateef Dar community Health Officer (CHO) Budhal and he discussed in detailed different causes and preventive measures of the most dreaded disease AIDS.
Principal of the College Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Raina said to know AIDS is no AIDS. Earlier the Program started with recitation of Holy Quran by Shanwaz Ahmad Khaki.
Government Degree College Kishtwar in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organized awareness programme on 'World AIDS Day'. On the occasion Dr. Ashiq Hussain, convenor said that the day was for taking stock of the challenges that humanity was facing because of HIV/AIDS, and for celebrating our successes in supporting the people affected by the pandemic. Among various students who took part in the symposium, Nitika Sharma, Pooja Kiran and Misbah Tabassum were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Aftab Ahmed Khan said, we have seen the high death toll, dislocation of many families, the reduced life spans in hard-hit countries, the increase in child mortality and the millions of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and pain suffered by people who are stigmatized and discriminated against because of their HIV-positive status.
Government Degree College, Gool organized seminar on the World AIDS day and 15 students from Degree College Gool, Government Higher Secondary Schools and Boys and Girls High schools of Gool and Sangaldan had participated. In the programme organized under the aegis of the Principal, Degree College, Gool, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Gupta the BMO, Gool, Dr. Sheikh Yasir Nazir was the guest of honour who also acted as the resource person.
On the occasion the students also made the relevant posters and took out an awareness rally with placards and banners in their hands through the Gool market. Later the deserving participants were also given away the mementos and certificates.
J&K Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) today organized AIDS WALK from MAM Stadium to Rajinder Park. The walk was organized in order to generate awareness among general masses about HIV/AIDS. Since the theme of World AIDS Day 2014 suggests "Focus partner, achieve AIDS free generation" pamphlets, placards and banners having message on the theme were distributed among the general population.
Dr. Aarti Bakshi, HOD Psychology department, Jammu University and Pallavi Singh Project Director, JKSPYM flag off the rally and congratulated the participants for taking part in this noble cause. More than 200 people participated in the AIDS Walk both from PLHIV and general masses. Students from paramedical college Govt. Auxiliary Medical Training School, Jammu also participated in the rally. Director, JKSPYM mentioned that their organization has been actively participating in this kind of activities since 1991 and has been serving the affected community since last 2 decades.
Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Doda on Monday organized a Symposium cum Pooster making competition in the College premises. Commanding Officer (CO) 10RR Col Sunil Mishra was the Chief Guest while 2IC 10RR Kailash Jha was the Guest of honor besides Principal GDC Doda Prof Zaheer Abass Hashmi and Resource Person Senior Pathologist Dr Anayat Lone were the special guests on the occasion. The work of Stage Secretary was carried out by Prof Neelam Sabha Balwan. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Wahied Khawar Balwan highlighted the importance of celebrating this day. He exhorted the students to educate themselves on AIDS so that they can spread social awareness for the prevention and cure of this disease.
