NC delays, Modigovt returns package for displaced persons : Manjit Singh
NC, BJP playing politics with refugees, DPs; BJP trying to create division in society
12/2/2014 12:06:19 AM
Vijaypur, Dec 1: Ex-minister and Congress candidate from Vijaypur assembly constituency, Manjit Singh today criticised the Modi-led government at the Centre for returning package sent by the J&K government for the displaced persons who had suffered a lot for decades. Manjit visited Barota Camp, Govindgarh, Rarri, Ramloo Brahmana, DunaChak, Mean Sarkar and other areas of Vijaypur assembly segment, seeking support from the people ahead of assembly polls.Interacting with the displaced persons, he said the Congress ministers and he himself had made hectic efforts for the package which was sent to the Centre for its approval. However, the package was turned down deliberately with political motives. "Earlier, it was National Conference which had created hurdles and delayed process of sending package to the Centre even as then UPA Government had assured all help," he said. He said that though the package was finally sent to the Centre, it again faced discrimination from the BJP-led NDA government in Delhi. "They returned the package for political gains only. They tried to divide the affected people as part of vote bank politics," he said, alleging that the people should remain aware of the divisive politics being played by BJP.Manjit said that Congress was based on the principle of secularism and unity. "We have sacrificed for the country to keep it united. We have worked for the neglected and poor people," he claimed. He said that Congress was the only party in Jammu and Kashmir which could keep the state united and develop all the three regions equally without any discrimination. He said the administration had turned deaf ear towards the sufferings of local farmers and had shown no interest in repairing the bandh at Barota which was damaged in flash floods triggered by rains in September last."The Barota farmers have been continuously living under threat of floods whenever there are rains as the bandh has still not been reconstructed," he asserted.
