BJP, NPP legislators accuse State Govt of failure in providing relief to people affected by shelling

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Jammu based legislators of Bharatiya Janata Party and National Panthers Party carried out a brief walkout and raised slogans against Pakistan while highlighting the plight of the people living in border areas who have been affected by shelling from across the border over the past one month or so. As soon as the proceedings for the day began the legislators of NPP stood up and started raising slogans against Pakistan. The legislators said that Pakistan has created fear among the residents of border areas by resorting to continuous shelling leading to civilian casualties and also death of some animals. The NPP legislators Harshdev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yashpaul Kundal reached the well of the house and raised slogans against Pakistan.
They also accused the state government of failure in providing relief to the affected people. The legislators demanded that adequate protection should be given to the border residents so that they come out of the fear.
As the NPP legislators were carrying out their protest the independent legislator from Langate Engineer Abdul Rashid stood up and objected to the sloganeering. This did not go well with NPP legislators especially Kundal. He entered into an argument with Rashid and both could be seen exchanging hot words over the issue. As there was no response from the speaker, Mubarak Gul the NPP legislators carried out walk out in the house. They raised slogans against Pakistan and also the state government. They waved their hands towards the gallery where the press photographers were discharging their duties.
Mankotia came back after few minutes while as the other legislators returned only after the house resumed business after being adjourned. The house in the afternoon took up the discussion on the issue and many legislators spoke on the issue. In his speech, Harshdev said that no compensation has been provided to the people who have been affected by the shelling from across the border. He said that adequate shelter should be provided to affected people. He said that state government has just given assurances and done nothing to provide relief to the affected people. Harshdev said that 26 ceasefire violations have taken place in the border areas of Jammu division over the past one month. He said both the state and central governments should look into the matter so that there is an end to the miseries of the people living in border areas.
He said that peace of world especially South Asia has been disturbed by the shelling and same should be stopped at the earliest. Expelled BJP member Professor Chaman Lal Gupta while referring to surfacing of tunnel in a border area in Jammu said that the same shows that Pakistan has been working on this for a long time with it not being an overnight matter.
He said that shelling should be replied by shelling and that state government has to carry out rehabilitation of affected people.MLA Bishnah, Ashwini Kumar Sharma said that innocents are being targeted by Pakistan with mortar shells being lobbed on them. He said many houses in his constituency have been damaged and people are suffering like anything. BJP MLA, Ashok Khajuira said that Government of India would carry out an action that would ensure that Pakistan is wiped out from the annals of history. He said Prime Minister, Narendra Modi would teach a lesson to Pakistan. Khajuria said that defence minister, Arun Jaitely has already authorized the security forces to take any action which they deem fit to counter the shelling from across the border. The other legislators who spoke on the issue include Surjit Singh Salathia, Rafiq Hussain Khan, Sham Lal Chaudhary, Yashpaul Kundal and Engineer Abdul Rashid.
