JKCL fails to maintain profit earning trend | | | Sandeep Bhat
Jammu, Aug 26 : The Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL) used to be the only profit earning company in the state but it has been showing now a downward trend in earning profits for the last two years. JKCL was incorporated as a fully owned government company in December 1974 with the objective to exploit the abundant deposits, make the quality cement available to the consumers at reasonable rates besides filling up the gap between demand and supply. The plant of 600 tonnes per day capacity installed at Khrew was listed as a heavy sector industry which started its commercial production in April 1982 and is one of the largest employer in the state providing employment to more than one thousand semi skilled, skilled, specialized and super specialized people directly or indirectly. Its installed capacity is 400000 mts and it has been earning profits over the years, though the trend is reversing now. As per the data available with Early Times and ES, j&k, it earned a profit of Rs 435.51 during 2011-12 as against Rs, 253.00 lakhs in 2012-13. In the year 2009-10 its earning was Rs 466.90 lakhs which went down to Rs 198.06 lakhs in year 2010-11.This shows slight improvement in next year and jumped profit upto Rs 435.51 lakhs in year 2011-12, but again showed downward trend in the year 2012-13 and stopped at earning profits at Rs 253.00 lakhs.This trend is further going down which is not the healthy sign for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. |
