Jammu based NC leader, cable operators take people for a ride | DC Anantnag to take action today | | Saahil Suhail ANANTNAG, Aug 26: Enjoying patronage of a Jammu based National Conference leader, cable operators in this southern district continue to snap the cable services to the consumers without even informing them besides monopolizing the business against the norms. Anantnag residents told Early Times that so far the district administration has failed in streamlining the cable network services according to the cable Television Network Act, resulting immense sufferings to thousands of consumers of the town. "Whenever they wish they snap the services even without informing us. On trivial issues related to their business they snap the services and we fail to understand why district administration has given them so liberty to loot the consumers who pay monthly inflated tariff," a delegation told Early Times. They said that the cable operators are providing them just 30 channels mostly the free-to-Air channels but are compelling consumers to pay 200 to 300 rupees monthly. Locals said that the quality of the services being provided is against the quality transmission norms. Locals said that from past several days cable operators have snapped the cable transmission services to whole district without any reason. Confirming the snapping cable services transmission a cable operators wishing anonymity told Early Times that the service has been suspended over the fee hike by a local cable operator who is enjoying the patronage of Jammu based NC leader. When contacted Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad Khan said that he too is suffering. "It is also my grievance, from past few days they have suspended services, I don't know why." said DC Anantnag. When asked that he can constitute regularity/monitoring committee authority according to cable television network Act and can use his powers vested in him, DC said, "I was in Srinagar and was busy today, tomorrow hopefully I will call these thieves (cable operators) and will look into the matter as it has headache for all of us." |
