Enjoying Tara Chand's patronage, ZEO Surankote says, 'I damn care'

SURANKOTE, Aug 26: "I damn care for Chief Education Officer or Education Director. I have direct links with the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and I do not care for any file pending in my office , be it anyone's," was rude reply of high-headed Shamher Chand, Zonal Education Officer Surankote who refused to give any consideration to the plea of Education Volunteers (EVs) awaiting their adjustment since past 12 years.
The gullible lot had joined Education Volunteers (EVs) under the centre sponsored Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme launched in the tenure of Harsh Dev Singh as the then Education Minister in 2002-03.
The EVs were appointed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) Scheme in 2002-2003 and were yet to be regularized, despite repeated contacts made with the Government.
In this regard, some of the people working under such schemes in many villages rue that after the lapse of nearly 12 years, no effort has been envisaged from any quarter as they feel their career being jeopardized. As per the official norms, every EV has to be regularized after seven years of his/her services.
Early times correspondent when contacted the ZEO listing their problems with him was given a rude shock who point blankly retaliated at the correspondent saying that he fears none as he enjoys the patronage of Dy CM Tara Chand and refused to oblige to move the file for orders of regularization of the EVs.
However , when contacted , the chief Education officer Hemraj Pukhroo gave a patient audience to the problems of the RVs and assured them all possible help.
"Earlier also I have received the complaints of ZEO regarding some issues and I assure you that a two-member team would be constituted and sent to ZEO office at Surankote to take the cognizance of the matter, " Hemraj Pukhroo said.
He said he would take all possible action against the defaulting ZEO and ensure that the processing of the file s could be done in time bound manner.
Some of the EVs awaiting regularization as General Line Teachers (GLTs) in block Sunderbani in Rajouri district while talking to Early Times reporter said that they are being made scapegoat by the administration as the government seems to have turned nelson eye towards their regularization.
Though some of them have been turned into ReTs, yet their fate to see themselves as General Line Teachers (GLTs) still eludes them.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier ZEO Sunderbani Pritam Chand had expressed his unwillingness to pursue with the EVs case saying that he was forced by the state administration to take up the charge as ZEO which he had not wanted to acquire.
