SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Congress vice President, Ghulam Nabi Monga has gifted Baramulla to Salman Soz. Monga in an exclusive interaction with Early Times said he will not contest and will concentrate on party work.
Salman Soz who is new face of state Congress is all set to contest upcoming Assembly elections from Baramulla constituency. "I will not contest this election, I have many responsibilities to perform during upcoming Assembly elections, I was campaigning head for North Kashmir during Parliamentary elections and I will continue working as campaigning head during Assembly elections and for party benefits as well", Monga said. He did not elaboratre on his decision not to contest. "I am popular in Uri and Baramulla but I am busy with many works which party has assigned me ahead of Assembly elections," he said.
According to sources internal bickering is widening more within state Congress as one lobby supporting Ghulam Nabi Monga was interested that Monga should himself contest elections from Baramulla constituency, while as another lobby supporting debut of Salman Soz in state elections is adamant that he (Salman Soz) should be allowed to contest from Baramulla constituency instead of Monga who lost one term of Assembly elections from the same constituency.
Pertinently Ghulam Nabi Monga who is presently member of legislative council successfully won 2012 Panchayat Quota election from Kashmir division and is considered senior most office bearer of state Congress from Kashmir division.
Sources said that Salman soz who was introducing himself among general public pre-Parliamentary elections in Baramulla constituency had hinted to contest Assembly elections from the same constituency, however later when state Congress recently had to send names of people contesting Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir to Congress high command, a controversy erupted among the supporters of Monga and Salman over the name of candidate.
State Congress is yet to announce names of candidates contesting upcoming Assembly elections from Jammu and Kashmir.
