Political turncoats, fresh faces joining BJP giving uneasy churns to old horses | | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Aug 26: With more and more rival defectors as well as fresh faces are making a beeline to join the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), the state unit of the party is quite upbeat over the sudden surge of admission-seekers. However, if sources are to be believed then a section within the State BJP is livid with the top brass of the party as it is extending a 'red carpet treatment' to the new entrants especially to those who had crossed over from other parties and who once were hard hitting opponents of the BJP. Sources informed Early Times that the old guard and loyal workers of the party are feeling suffocated over the manner in which the top BJP leadership is giving too much importance to the new comers. "Though the dedicated party workers are not vocal but resentment is surely growing with each passing day… Their annoyance is quite visible…The indiscriminate entry of politicians as well as new comers into BJP is being opposed in a hush-hush voice," said sources. "Old guard in the party is feeling sidelined and neglected as the turncoats and fresh faces are getting more attention… The impact of joining spree is definitely going to affect the party adversely…It will prove to be suicidal for the party in the long run," they added. Of late, the trend of joining BJP has grown among 'wannabe' politicians as well the 'old horses' since it is generally perceived that by joining the saffron party their fortunes will turn for positive. "Now sensing that wind is blowing in favour of the BJP, every Tom, Dick and Harry is eager to join the BJP…But why to blame them when BJP leadership is allowing entry of such persons without giving a second thought …. The entry should be purely on merit rather than the tendency we are seeing presently," said sources. The hardcore BJP leaders and workers, who have spent a lifetime to strengthen the party, are more irked over the fact that the party is courting several rival defectors. "The entry of Lal Singh, Ashwani Sharma and Talib Hussain into BJP is nothing but politics of opportunism….Such leaders get the nod of making entry into BJP from highest level at New Delhi in close door parleys with senior party leaders wherein deals were struck…Suitable adjustment is assured but how can party forget that they were once known BJP baiters and fought against our candidates in Assembly and Lok Sabha polls held from time to time," said sources. "Ashwani Sharma's entry into the party is most surprising as he once declined to be a part of the BJP… Sharma was offered an honourable entry into BJP before the Assembly elections in 2008 but he refused the proposal hands down… He as well as others know that it would be difficult to keep them afloat in state politics particularly people like Ashwani who has recognized the fact that with a changed political scenario it would be an uphill task for him to retain his seat from Bishnah," sources added. |
