PHQ imposes 'blanket ban' on appointment of SPOs | | | Srinagar, Aug 26:After several complaints regarding back door and politically motivated appointments of Special Police Officers (SPOs) , the Police headquarters Jammu and Kashmir wide order 2064 of 2014 imposed blanket ban on appointments of SPOs by any District Superintendent of Police of all the 22 Districts of the state. As per the order passed by the Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir K.Rajindra Kumar, all the SSPs were barred from appointing SPOs without prior permission of PHQ. " In supersession of all previous orders on the subject, henceforth no engagement of Special Police Officers (SPOs) shall be made by any unit Head/District SPs without prior approval of the PHQ, till further order" read the order No. 2064 of 2014 issued by DGP J &K, copy of which was available with Early Times. The said order further stated that "The vacancies of SPOs which may accrue due to disengagements/conversion of SPOs as on last day of the preceding month shall be intimated to PHQ by or before 5th of next month regularly". It is pertinent to mention that opposition parties like BJP on number of occasion allege that District SSPs under the political pressure of ruling party leaders appointed blue eyed NC and Congress workers as SPOs in violation of rules and regulation, beside also demanded an inquiry into appointment of SPOs during present government. |
