SRINAGAR, Aug 26: At a time when Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is aiming high to achieve 44+ target in the upcoming assembly elections the Kashmir unit of party is in doldrums with ruckus being witnessed in a meeting here today.
Sources told Early Times that some of the new entrants of the party were very upset with the ruckus and some of them could be seeing ruing their decision of joining the party. The BJP members exchanged heated arguments and some of the members walked out of the meeting.
"As the meeting began at the lawns of Cheshmashahi garden State Vice President, Kisan Morcha M M War supported by State Vice President, Ghulam Mohammad Mir and member Showkat Hussain impressed the need to rehabilitate surrendered militants in the state. This did not go well with the other members and what followed was absolute ruckus," said sources.
Sources said that Mir while addressing the members said that central government should be asked to rehabilitate surrendered militants. He said the surrendered militants should be given a package of Rs. 10 lakhs each and they should be given a job in the para-military forces. He also suggested that the stone pelters should be absorbed as Special Police Officials (SPOs) in the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
"The meeting presented the look of a wrestling match as the leaders heckled each other. There was utter indiscipline during the meeting and it was free for all during the meeting. As the melee was on the State President, Muslim Morcha, Malik Mushtaq Noorabadi walked out of the meeting and said that he would not like to be a part of the party that has got no discipline," said sources.
Sources said that party's potential candidate from Amira Kadal, Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat also walked out of the meeting but was persuaded to come back. Dr. Hina said that there is no discipline in the party and the same should be taken note of by the top leadership of the party.
"Chaos erupted as one of the senior members Altaf Thakur objected to the secessionist tendencies of Mir, War and Showkat. Altaf was supported by party zonal presidents Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir, D K Nehru and Ghulam Nabi Dar. As if the chaos was not enough Haleema, State Secretary said that mortal remains and belongings of parliament attack convict, Mohammad Afzal Guroo be brought back," said sources.
Sources said that War accused the Kashmir unit of BJP of minting money in the name of distribution of mandates. When Mir was asked about the employment package for unemployed youth he said that same is one of the issues facing the state. The melee caught the attention of people present at the venue and they mocked at the proceedings of the meeting.
It would be in place to mention here that War and another member Mohammad Ashraf Azad were taken to task for their statements given to a national daily. In his statement War had said that BJP is in touch with Sajad Lone despite the fact that the same was denied by party spokesperson some days back.
On the other side Azad had said BJP will get majority of its own and it will install a Muslim as the chief minister of the state. The zonal presidents accused the state vice-president of reducing the dignity and sanctity of their posts by referring to them as rubble.
