2011 may prove crucial for Jammu | | | RUSTAM

JAMMU, Dec 31: Almost all the major political players in Jammu province appear one as far as the issue of discrimination with Jammu is concerned. There also appears a consensus among them on another major issue, the political future of the Jammu province.
As for the issue of discrimination, the BJP, the Congress and the JKNPP suggested in 2010 that time had come for ending discrimination with Jammu province. They also suggested some mechanisms to surmount the age-old problem. The BJP recommended provincial council as a solution to the Jammu problem. The Panthers Party suggested that reorganization of the state and establishment of regional assembly in Jammu could end discrimination. The Jammu-based Congress leaders publicly acknowledged that some mechanism was needed to remove regional imbalances. They expressed this view only on December 28 in the presence of JKPCC chief and former Congress national spokesperson.

JAMMU, Dec 31: State high court today quashed appointment of Director Health Services Dr. Ashok Sharma and Director Family welfare for Jammu region and directed Jammu and Kashmir government to fill-up the posts on substantive basis in accordance with heath and family welfare recruitment rules-2006 within four weeks.
Justice Hasnain Masoodi passed this order in a petition filed by In-charge Deputy Director (Schemes) Kashmir. SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Even as the snowfall subsided last night and hours of sunshine brought relief for the authorities on Friday, Srinagar-Jammu national highway was fully cleared of snow and nearly 200 vehicles smoothly crossed Jawahar Tunnel towards their destination of Srinagar this evening. As many as 600 trucks and nearly a hundred other vehicles were still stranded in Qazigund-Banihal belt and the highway was again closed for traffic due to acute slippery conditions on either side of the tunnel.

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: A standard operating procedure (SOP) would be drafted to deal with mob violence with emphasis on use of non-lethal weapons.
"The union home ministry has constituted a group of top level police and security officers for drafting the SOP to deal with mob violence with emphasis on use of non-lethal weapons," group chairman and DGP Kuldeep Khoda today said in his year-end message.
