SRINAGAR, Jan 20: Resentment is brewing amongst the stakeholders in the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council for its inability to hold elections to the post of Joint Secretary, more than six months since the incumbent body was put in place.
After the existing Council came into being, the elections to the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary were not conducted. While Dilip Thussu, an engineer of the State Government was posted as the Secretary State Sports Council a few months prior to the constitution of the Council and was asked to continue, elections to the joint secretary were also withheld as the then Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib proposed that Siddharth Sharma, who was the Joint Secretary in the previous Council be allowed to continue till the elections to the post were held at a later date. However, more than six months since then, elections have not been held and Siddharth Sharma has continued to hold on to the chair unconstitutionally. JAMMU, Jan 20: National Conference out-maneuvered Congress by forcing retd General VK Singh to appear before the privilege committee on Jan 22. The Congress did salvage by insisting that the matter would end there, but even on it the NC had remained non committal.
National Conference managed to score over Congress on the contentious issue of personal appearance of the General Singh on Jan 22 before the Committee. This is seen as major political boost, in the perception of the NC, and a set-back for the Congress.
The reason for Congress getting out-maneuvered was that its only member, Jugal Kishore, who is also the chairman of the Committee, was present while NC was pre...

A report suggested that the delegation told Rahul Gandhi that "any pre-poll arrangement for the Parliament or Assembly elections in the State would shrink the party's space and the High Command should allow the party to go alone for the polls".
The delegation consisted of some senior Congress leaders not only from Kashmir, but also from Jammu, including some district presidents, and the JKPCC chief confirmed that he, along with senio...

JAMMU, Jan 20: Has BJP taken a U-turn on Article 370? Or, has it abandoned its age-old demand seeking abrogation of this Article? If one goes by what appeared in a section of print media in and outside the state after BJP national president Rajnath Singh's January 18 statement on Article 370, then the answer could be in the affirmative.
What made certain commentators to believe that the BJP has taken a complete U-turn on Article 370 was the Rajnath Singh's January 18 statement that "the party would have 'no objection' to its retention in the Constitution if it has really benefitted the people or developed the state".
A commentator has said: "If Article 370 is good, it should have be...
