Jammu, Jan 30: Nearly two months after he took over as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof Varun Sahni today batted for the Central University status to properly deliver on its expanded network.
In his first ever interaction with the media, Prof Sahni pointed that his University has a large expansion with outer colleges and campuses and the Central University status will enable in maintaining expansion and further improving academic and infrastructure standards
Holding out commitment on one major issue, Prof Sahni said, by 2010 the results will be declared in time by the Jammu University authorities as this is the major problem being faced by the university for so many years. ‘It is the main area to focus on and we are trying to make every effort to improve it. We have started work on computerization of the examination wing’, he added.

Jammu, Jan 30: The State Commission for Women is though the most neglected wing of the state government but the hapless and victimized women still have their high hopes in it.
The SWC which does not have a chairperson and members for several years has been receiving series of complaints from across the state with Kashmir Valley topping the list.

Srinagar, Jan 30: The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah today said that easing of security restrictions and making J&K Police solely responsible for law and order situation in Srinagar city has been well-taken by the public and this would be extended to other areas in a phased manner.

Jammu, Jan 30: Tainted IPS officer Saji Mohan has landed in further trouble as Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday registered a case of cheating with the Chandigarh police against the bureau's former zonal director, arrested by Mumbai ATS with 12 kg of heroin.
NCB has also found evidence of "swapping" of narcotics with material of equal weight by the now disgraced official.
According to top NCB sources, the case was registered against the Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officer after an internal investigation found Mohan had bungled accounts to the tune of over Rs 13 lakh with regard to a particular case cracked by the agency during his tenure.
