SRINAGAR, Jan 5: In immediate response to the eruption of sectarian tension---exclusively reported by Early Times in today’s issue---authorities have imposed curfew over around 50 villages in the Central Kashmir Magam-Pattan belt, even as the residents have formed a joint forum of 60 representatives of Sunni and Shia Muslims and Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla is personally participating in its first meeting on Wednesday to resolve the crisis. Conflict over the name of a Chowk has snowballed into a major trouble as the Shias want it to be known as ‘Imam Khomeini Chowk’ and the Sunnis insist that it be christened either after the name of a hamlet or a militant killed over a decade ago.

Jammu, Jan 5: With one more case of swine flu being detected in Jammu and Kashmir, the total number of H1N1 infections in the state has touched 65, health department officials said here.
A teacher tested positive for the virus after his sample was sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), they said.
Officials said all the patients who tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir have responded well to Tamiflu and they were improving after receiving treatment. Four persons have died so far due to swine flu in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu, Jan 5: As he moves confidently into his second year in office, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called upon the Center to initiate talks with Jammu and Kashmir on restoration of autonomy.
The Chief Minister, however, made it clear that he was not projecting grant of autonomy or restoration of pre-1953 status as a lasting solution of the Kashmir which, he said, should be worked out through dialogue. “I don’t favour one solution which may be opposed by other, I want there should be dialogue to find a way”, Omar told reporters on the sidelines of public functions at his official residence to mark one year of his government.

Baramulla, Jan 5: A major blast took place in high security zone, reportedly in the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC), near here this morning.
Initial reports said a constable was reportedly killed in the blast, official sources informed. They said a blast took place, sound of which was heard in the entire town, damaging window panes of about a dozen nearby buildings.
