EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 23: The election process is going to be practically rolled out tomorrow as the Governor will issue notification for ten assembly constituencies spread over four districts going to polls in first phase on November 17. Except BJP and Panthers Party no other party has declared the list of their candidates for any of the constituencies going to polls in first phase. Even BJP and Panthers Party have also released their lists sparingly for two to three seats in all. The border district of Poonch in Jammu region, the newly created Bandipore district in north Kashmir and two Himalayan districts of Leh and Kargil –all having ten constituencies, are going to polls in first phase on November 17, a notification for which was issued this evening. As already announced by the Election Commission, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in exercise of powers vested in him under sub-section (2) of section 27 of Jammu and Kashmir Representation of People's Act 1957 and as recommended by the Election Commission of India will issue Notification for holding of Assembly Ele...

Railways want Chenab Bridge scrapping reconsidered

AGENCIES NEW DELHI Oct 23: The four-year-old project of building the world's highest bridge on Chenab has been scrapped by the Railway Board for lack of safety and stability. Rather than implementing the decision, Northern Railways has askedthe board to "reconsider" its decision on political and other extraneous considerations. AGENCIES NEW DELHI, Oct 23: An announcement on the reduction of fuel prices will be made within a week in the wake of decline in global crude prices, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told the Lok Sabha on Thursday. "The matter is being examined and an announcement would be made within a week," Deora said during Question Hour in reply to a spate of supplementaries on the issue as opposition members insisted that the fuel prices be brought down forthwith.
