NEW DELHI Oct 23: The four-year-old project of building the world's highest bridge on Chenab has been scrapped by the Railway Board for lack of safety and stability.
Rather than implementing the decision, Northern Railways has askedthe board to "reconsider" its decision on political and other extraneous considerations. In a letter dated September 20, general manager of Northern Railways Shri Prakash said that he wanted the Chenab bridge, which is part of the first railway link to Kashmir valley, to be revived for three broad reasons:

NEW DELHI, Oct 23: An announcement on the reduction of fuel prices will be made within a week in the wake of decline in global crude prices, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
"The matter is being examined and an announcement would be made within a week," Deora said during Question Hour in reply to a spate of supplementaries on the issue as opposition members insisted that the fuel prices be brought down forthwith.

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, today took over as Principal Secretary, Home Department.
In his first interaction with the officers of the Home Department, Ganai emphasized on development of a healthy work culture and speedy disposal of the cases. He said that he was in favour of more decentralization and delegation of powers so as to reduce unnecessary movement of files.

JAMMU, Oct 23: Within a week of election announcement, it did not come as a surprise as the BJP today announced a “shot in the arm” with joining of a new entrant in the party.
Shilpi Verma, wife of Kuldeep Verma, who had died after allegedly consuming poison during the Amarnath Yatra agitation has joined BJP to, what she described as, “carrying forward her husband’s agenda”.
The decision was announced by BJP’s state president Ashok Khajuria and the national coordinator RP Singh in a hurriedly called press conference here this afternoon. In last several years, this was perhaps first press conference of BJP held in a luxury hotel instead of the party headquarters.
