After a prolonged wait of nearly three years, the Peoples Democratic Party has today finally released its much talked about ‘Self-Rule document’ which the party claims can pave way for lasting solution of the Jammu and Kashmir problem.
The self rule concept in context of Jammu and Kashmir was first coined by then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in December 2005 and was subsequently adopted by the Peoples Democratic Party in January 2006, though in a different form and perspective. The party, however, could not release the document for two and half years, apparently due to its running trouble with the Peoples Democratic Party when it was part of the ruling coalition.

JAMMU, Oct 25: The Congress election committee for Jammu and Kashmir headed by PCC President and Union Water Resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has finalized list of candidates for all seats of Jammu province.
“We have discussed all probable and names of potential candidates for all constituencies have been forwarded to the party high command for clearance”, said a senior Congress leader who attended the meeting chaired by Soz on Friday in Srinagar. Besides probables from Jammu region, the list also includes all names for the seats going to polls in first phase of elections.

JAMMU, Oct 25: The leaders of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti, which spearheaded two month long agitation in Jammu, have claimed that they have got a threat letter from the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The Police have, however, sought to underplay the issue.
“We have received a threatening letter from the SIMI…the letter is written in Hindi”, Leela Karan Sharma, the convener of the Samiti told Early Times this evening. The letter, according to Samiti leaders has come by surface post and a copy of same has been handed over to the Inspector General of Jammu Police for his cognizance and action.

JAMMU, Oct 25: The Congress appears to have decided not to project any senior party leader as Chief Ministerial candidate in the forthcoming Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.
There is no dearth of leaders who could have been projected as a chief Ministerial candidate but the Congress leadership is wise enough not to expose the political fragility of the organization in winning absolute majority in the 87-member Assembly. JAMMU, Oct 25: Responding to a constitutional question, the government had sought to explain in detail that it made no mistake in appointment of HH Tyabji as Advisor to the Governor but there is still no end to the questions.
Tyabji had served in the past as Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. As per rules a person who has served as Chairman of the Public Service Commission can not hold any post after his retirement. Responding to this constitutional question, the Law Department had sought to clarify that an Advisor to the Governor as defined as a Minister when Governor is incharge of the roles and responsibilities of the government.

JAMMU, Oct 25: National Conference will not enter into any pre-poll alliance in the ensuing assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, its patron and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said.
"We will fight on our own and hopefully win on our strength," Abdullah said after attending a function organised by J&K Christian Dalit Association to pay tributes to Bishop (Emeritus) Hippolytus Kunnunkal here this afternoon.
When asked whether NC will go for post-poll alliance if it fails to get a majority to form government, he said: "it will be difficult to form government with alliances and such governments do not run smoothly."

BANGALORE, Oct 25: The Indian Army would provide whatever forces are required by the Election Commission (EC) to conduct peaceful assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir next month, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here Saturday.”
We will provide forces as per the request of the EC as we want free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in the border state,” Antony told reporters at a news conference at the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) airfield.
Earlier this week, the EC had announced it would conduct polls in seven phases across the northern state beginning from Nov 17 and ending Dec 24. Counting of votes and results are Dec 8.
