JAMMU, Oct 7: With the arrival of full Election Commission of India in Kashmir for last and final assessment exercise, political parties are expecting announcement of the assembly elections anytime towards middle of this month.
The Election Commission of India, led by the Chief Election Commissioner, N. Gopalswami, today reached in Srinagar on a two day visit to make an assessment of the situation for the forthcoming elections to the J&K Assembly. The Election Commissioners, Navin Chawla and S Y Qureshi and two Deputy Elections Commissioners accompanied Gopalaswami.
After a meeting with top officers of the state administration, the team is slated to have separate meeting with representative of all political parties in Srinagar tomorrow. Sources said that the activity is picking up for elections and announcements can be expected in the middle of this month.

The announcement puts to a close a magnificent career spanning 16 years, filled with milestones that place him among the greats of international cricket.

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Normal life resumed in Kashmir today after authorities lifted the two-day-old curfew from all 10 districts of the Valley as the situation remained peaceful during the restriction period, official sources said.
Curfew was imposed in Kashmir Valley from Saturday midnight "to prevent any loss of life or property" in the wake of separatist leaders' call for a march to Lal Chowk on Monday in support of their demand for right to self determination.

JAMMU, Oct 7: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is expected to formally launch the Baglihar hydro-electric power project on river Chenab in next few days.
Sources told EARLY TIMES that the Prime Minister may launch the 450 MW prestigious state-sector power project on October 10.
