Kupwara/Jammu, Nov 30: Grappling in the dark separatist today repeated the benchmark statement of “elections no solution to Kashmir issue”, as for third time straight the voters in Kashmiri rejected the boycott call and cast their vote with an overwhelming enthusiasm.
The third phase of ongoing elections –in Kupwara district –was seen as a direct contest between separatists and mainstream political parties as Kupwara is projected as turf of Peoples Conference led by Sajjad and Bilal Ghani Lone.
Boycott call given by the separatists, more particularly the Peoples Conference had no bearing on the people as Kupwara witnessed a huge turnout with nearly 62 per cent of the electorate exercising their franchise in the third phase of Assembly elections.
Chief Election Officer of Jammu and Kashmir BR Sharma told a news conference in Jammu late this evening that the polling in all the five constituencies was held smoothly and in a peaceful manner, adding that there were no reports of violence from anywhere in the district. New Delhi, Nov 30: In the wake of deadly terror strikes in Mumbai, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said the political class of the country should give a message of collective approach in dealing with the situation.
Initiating discussion at the all-party meeting convened to discuss the situation arising out of the Mumbai attacks, Singh expressed confidence that the meeting "will be able to give our collective assurance to the nation that across the political spectrum we stand together at this hour." Jammu, Nov 30: India has denied any link between the postponement of talks over the Sir Creek dispute and the Mumbai terror attacks and said there was also no plan to suspend the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
'The talks on Sir Creek were postponed a week ago, much before the Mumbai terror,' external affairs ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash told reporters in New Delhi.
The talks on Sir Creek, a disputed strip of water in the Rann of Kutch marshlands, were scheduled to be held in New Delhi Dec 2.
