| Valley on boil over CBI report on Shopian, dozens injured | | | |

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Majlis-e-Mashawarat Shopian (MMS) call for total shutdown in Valley, that had been supported by Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led faction of the Hurriyat Conference and High Court Bar Association, evoked a lukewarm response in Kashmir today as reports of partial bandh poured in from several localities but traffic and shops were found operational in many other localities. Contrary to a many speculations and apprehensions of violence in the corridors of power, there was no major incident even as thin groups of demonstrators clashed with Police at a few places in the capital city. MMS had given the call for shutdown in protest against CBI’s clean chit to four J&K Police officials and instead framing nearly a dozen doctors and lawyers in a criminal matter of conspiracy and fabricating evidences.

New Delhi, Dec 15: Even as the Center is continuously saying no to restoration of pre-paid cell phone services, the Home Ministry is reported to have called a meeting with top bosses of mobile operators tomorrow to discuss how prepaid mobile services can be made foolproof in terms of security in Jammu and Kashmir.
Home Secretary G K Pillai will have a meeting with the CEOs on new security features and verification obligations ensuring the foolproof security in prepaid mobile services in the state, according to official sources.
Amid security concerns, the Centre had last month banned prepaid mobile phone connections in J&K sparking widespread protests.

NEW DELHI, DEC 15: The Supreme Court on Tuesday was told that the ban on the pre-paid mobile telephone connections in the trouble torn border State of Jammu and Kashmir was imposed in the interest of the security.
The Solicitor General of India (SGI) Gopal Subramaniam told the court that the decision to ban the pre-paid mobile telephone connection was warranted because of security reasons.
