Army soldier goes berserk, shoots five colleagues before killing himself

Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Feb 27: In a bizarre incident an Army soldier went berserk and killed five of his colleagues before shooting himself during the dead of the night at their camp in the Manasbal area of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Reports reaching here said that Sepoy Ranveer of 4 Kumaon posted with 13 Rashtriya Rifles of 3 Sector at the Safapora camp in Manasbal went on the rampage and killed five of his colleagues while injuring the sixth one. The Sepoy later shot himself to death after firing from his own gun. Sources said that Sepoy Ranveer exchanged words with his colleagues with both the sides entering into an argument. During dead of the night at about 1:40 AM Sepoy Ranveer entered the guard room and opened nozzle of his gun. He pumped bullets on six soldiers with five of them suffering fatal injuries. The slain soldiers have been identified as Amit Kumar of 12 Kumaon, Lance Naik Tabruq Ansari of 278 Field Regiment, Sepoy Surinder Singh of 2 Kumaon, Rifleman M R Ajinath of 36 Medical Regiment and Rifleman Rajput Joni of 278 Field Regiment.
