Jammu, Feb 6: After no withdrawal of nominations on Friday for the Rajya Sabha elections , Union Minister for Water Resources Prof Saifuddin Soz and former Chief Minister of the state, Ghulam Nabi Azad were declared elected uncontested for Rajya Sabha on the last date for withdrawal of nomination for the upper house.
Soz and Azad were the only candidates to file their papers against Notification No. 1 and 2. There will be election on February 13 for remaining two seats for which National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, his senior party colleague Mohammad Shafi Uri, Peoples Democratic Party nominee Syed Altaf Hussain Bukhari and BJP candidate Advocate Ashok Vijay Gupta are in fray.
The announcement was made by the returning officer in Jammu. Soon after the announcement Congress workers switched to celebrations mode. Congress workers were seen dancing on the roads and beating drums.

New Delhi, Feb 6: Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today ruled out existence of a network of communal elements within his force, maintaining that the case of the alleged involvement of a serving lieutenant colonel in the Malegaon blast was an "aberration".
He also made it clear that the army would initiate internal action against Lt Col Srikant Purohit, an accused in the Malegaon blasts case being prosecuted by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS).
Kapoor said in an interview to a news agency that the army was reviewing its internal mechanisms and processes to further strengthen them so that such incidents do not not recur.

NEW DELHI: Health worries of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee continued on Friday with AIIMS doctors putting him on "mechanical
ventilation" after his respiratory infection worsened.
"He (Vajpayee) continues to have lower respiratory track infection which has worsened since morning. He has been put on mechanical ventilation in ICU and is being monitored by a team of doctors," Dr Sampath Kumar, head of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences of AIIMS, said on Friday evening while reading out a brief medical bulletin.
All his basic parametres including blood pressure, liver and kidney functions were normal, Kumar said.

New Delhi, Feb 6: Senior BJP leader and Prime ministerial candidate L K Advani on Thursday, Feb 5 said he received a death threat on his website. Advani informed the government that he received an e-mail threat by a Pakistan-based group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
Reports suggest that the post threatened harnessing of new technology weapons to be used against politicians and key personalities. Sources said that Advani received the threat while he was in Vijayawada. Meanwhile the senior BJP leaders and members of the national council meet is on to prepare and discuss the strategies to be executed for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

The snowfall, which started yesterday across the valley and high altitude areas of Jammu division, plunged most areas of the state into darkness and forced authorities to close the traffic on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which was partially restored today.

Jammu, Feb 6: As this tragedy in making was waiting to happen, two districts with Doda belt lost surface connection with rest of the region after sinking in of Batote-Doda road following incessant rainfalls of since last night.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today had an aerial visit of Assar area where nearly 150-metre road-stretch between Assar and Trungal was washed away due to heavy overnight rains. Four vehicles were swept away in the incident; however, no loss of life has been reported so far.
